Abraham F. Roth Obituary


Abraham (Abe) F. Roth, died, Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Goshen General Hospital where he had been a patient after suffering an apparent heart attack and complications due to loss of blood. He recently moved from 1401 Clover Creek Lane to 1300 Greencroft Drive, Apt #62, Goshen. His wife of 67 years, Phyllis (Bechtel) preceded him in death January 15, 2008. His parents were Rollin and Cleota (Gardner) Roth. He has two surviving children; Doug (Mary Jane) Roth, Jan (Rick) Huber and six grandchildren: Melissa (Sam) Huber Quon; Michigan, DJ (Jill) Roth, Robb (Kristin) Huber, Lon (Deana) Roth and Nate Huber (Amanda) all of Goshen, and Len (Rebecca) Roth of Pennsylvania. Also surviving are 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. His brothers, Rollin Jr. (Patricia) Roth WA, and Byron (Diane) Roth of Goshen also survive.

Abe was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a charter member of Jefferson Brethren Church where he remained active. His family appreciated his example of integrity, love of family, his faith and the acceptance of everyone he met and served. in 1909. His sense of humor and kind heart will be missed.

Abe owned and operated Roth & Son Service, 1000 South Main Street, Goshen, for many years He began working full time, after graduating from Goshen High School in 1937, with his father, Rollin, who started the business in 1935. He was active in the community and continued to be involved in the Goshen Evening Exchange Club, serving in various offices over the years as a charter member. He was a recipient of the Goshen Exchange Club Golden Deeds award in 1995. He also served on the Violet Cemetery Board.

Abe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis, sons Greg at birth and Steven in 1980. Also a brother Charles (Sia) Roth in Iowa.

Pastor Ron Spyker of the Jefferson Brethren Church will officiate with Vickie Oldenburg assisting. Viewing and service to be held at Yoder Culp Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Jefferson Brethren Church Helping Hands Fund to continue Abe’s legacy of serving and helping others.

Phyllis J. (Bechtel) Roth Obituary

Phyllis J. Roth, 84, of 1401 Clover Creek Lane, died at 10:23 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2008) in Goshen General Hospital, where she had been a patient since Jan. 9.

She was born June 4, 1923, in Goshen to Ira J. and Rosa (Rensberger) Bechtel. She married Abraham F. Roth on Sept. 7, 1941, in Goshen.

He survives along with one daughter, Jan (Rick) Huber of Goshen; one son, Doug (Mary Jane) Roth of Goshen, six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris (Carl) Smoker of Monroe, Ga., and Betty Joann (Jim) Boshart of Atoka, Tenn.; and one brother, Lowell Bechtel of Goshen.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Gregory Allen Roth, an infant, and Steven Jay Roth in 1980; one sister, Mary Lou Longcor; and two brothers, Russel and John Bechtel.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pastor Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church, Goshen, will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery.

Mrs. Roth was a homemaker and retired bookkeeper for the former Roth Service Station. She was an active and charter member of Jefferson Brethren Church. She was a member of Goshen Woman's Club.

Memorials may be given to Jefferson Brethren Church Building Fund.
